Cholera kills 9 children in two weeks

KHAIRPUR: At least nine children reportedly died of cholera in Khairpur during the last two weeks. According to the reports reached here, nine children aged between 2 and 10, died of cholera at Goth Khuda Bukhsh Samoan and Goth Mit near Khairpur.

Villagers alleged that the children lost their lives due to negligence of the health department.ÑPPI

Teachers suspended

NAO KOT: District Education Officer (DEO) has suspended headmaster Azher Ali and teachers Nadeem Ahmed Sunara, Mohammad Akram Government Primary School, Goth Mouledino Chandio of Taaluka Digri. The DEO also suspended Fayyaz Ahmed, Mohammad Jaffer Bhatti of Government School Nusratabad due to frequent absence from their duties.ÑPPI

Posting of female teachers

SHIKARGARH: The government of Punjab has decided to post the female teachers in schools situated near their residences. The source on Thursday said that army monitoring teams all over the Punjab have directed the education department to prepare lists of such teachers who are performing their duties in schools away from their residences.ÑPPI

Rs 300m for Khanewal uplift

KHANEWAL: The Punjab government has earmarked Rs 300 million for the provision of basic facilities to the people of Khanewal district. In this regard Deputy Commissioner, Khanewal divisional monitoring team are asking the public circles to give their proposals for the development projects, it was learnt here on Thursday.ÑPPI

Rs 1.6m recovered for illegal poaching

LAHORE: A penalty of Rs 1.6 million was imposed on the poachers, last year, during crackdown against illegal hunting in the Punjab province. Director General Wildlife Punjab Dr Abdul Aleem Chaudhry, disclosed this in a briefing on Thursday. He said that 2670 challans were sent to the courts during 1999 and after decision of 1720 cases courts fined Rs 10,67,475. Similarly, 136 challans were decided by the Wildlife Department, collecting a revenue of Rs 555,050 for the provincial exchequer.ÑPPI
