RECORDER REPORT

HYDERABAD: The Sindh Minister for Industries, Labour and Transport, Deewan Mohammad Yousuf Farooqui, has said that the progress of a developing country was dependent on its long-term economic policies and added that economic experts had been engaged in working out a viable trade policy.

He said the trade policy would be announced very soon.

The minister was inaugurating the second Hyderabad Industrial Trade Fair-2000 organised by the Hyderabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (HCCI) at the Municipal Gardens here on Wednesday.

He exhorted the people to use locally manufactured goods to promote industry.

The minister pointed out that in respect of basic civic amenities, the rural areas of the country were at least 200 years far behind the developed world while the urban areas were at least 100 years behind the developed countries.

Farooqui observed that both tax payers and tax collectors were problems in respect of the payment and collection of revenue and added that the government was seized by this problem.

He said efforts were being made to introduce 'one-window operation' for the collection of all taxes.

He said Hyderabad had always remained a big industrial and trading centre and its goods were very popular all over the world.

He was of the view that the industrial trade fair will not only attract the people from all over the country but international buyers were also likely to visit the fair.

Farooqui expressed the hope that the fair would give a boost to export and commended the efforts of the Hyderabad Chamber in this regard.

The minister agreed with the HCCI about the need for setting up a permanent Exhibition Hall here and promised to recommend to the Sindh Governor for the allotment of a suitable plot for this purpose.

Farooqui said that everyone should feel proud of being a Pakistani and should work in Unison for the development and prosperity of the country.

HCCI chief Mehmood Ahmed in his address of welcome underlined the aims and objects of the trade fair.

The other who spoke on the occasion, included, Divisional Commissioner, Imtiaz Kazi, Fair Committee Chairman Yousuf Kausar Bhatti, HCCI SVP Dr. Zulfiqar Yousfani.
