Addressing the participants he said the government was working towards decentralisation of power and wanted people to share the power structure.

He expressed his hope that the country will progress once it gets rid of the debt trap, adding that the present debt of $39 billion amounts to almost 87 percent of the GNP of the country.

He also highlighted various national issues and said that all Pakistanis should work for the promotion of social cohesion. The governor said the Chief Executive General Pervez Musharraf is committed to promote inter provincial harmony, national cohesion and remove distrust among the provinces.

Discussing the state of economy he said the country needs value-added exports and regretted that the agricultural output as compared to the inputs has not increased over the years.

He stressed that more of documentation and information was needed to enhance the tax base, adding that the tax officials cannot be blamed solely as its the people who corrupt them by greasing the palms of the officials.

Later, while talking to reporters he said the recent strike call given in Sindh was not a success.

The Principal of the Administrative Staff College Mehr Jevan Khan presented the college crest to the governor Sindh.ÑAPP
