Cane cultivation target fixed
RECORDER REPORT
LAHORE: The Punjab government has fixed a target of 32.8 million tonnes sugarcane yield for 2000, while an area of 1.898 million acres would be utilized for this purpose.
According to the Agriculture Department, sugarcane would be cultivated on 606,500 acres in Faisalabad Division, 323,500 acres in Lahore Division and 258, 200 acres in Sargodha Division.
Farmers have been advised by the farm experts not to cultivate Indian variety C.O. 1148. To get the better production, farmers should cultivate B.L 116 varieties. These varieties are safe from the disease like 'Ratta Roog'.
