IBA graduation ceremony Education, skills pre-requisite in fast moving
world: Tarar
KARACHI: President Rafiq Tarar has declared that in the extremely competitive and fast moving world of today sound education and marketable skills are the only pre-requisite for personal fulfilment and national development and to constantly maintain competitive advantage over others.
He was speaking as the chief guest at the graduation ceremony-2000 of the Institute of Business Administration (IBA) at Karachi University campus late on Tuesday evening.
"These goals can be achieved through efficient and judicious use and management of scarce resources and to generate new resources to meet the fresh challenges to be unfolded in the future," President Tarar added.
He said in Pakistan business and commerce have long been managed on traditional lines and only recently we started using new methodologies but we have yet to make our mark in the use of these modern tools.
The president said that the culture which was based on the most efficient use of whatever resources might be available to us, was yet to take root in our collective ethos.
He said he was glad to know that IBA had contributed much to the launching and propagation of this culture. The type of training and education that was imparted by the IBA has created a force of talented youth who could develop strategies and set goals which would lead the business and commerce sectors to new levels of excellence and productivity.
Tarar was of the view that the best of the government policies could not produce the desired results without there being a dedicated team of experts to execute these policies and to create such a team of experts in every field of our national life we must have human resource development programmes.
The president said: "I would emphasise one aspect of the problem which is often overlooked in our haste to develop. The strategies that are being devised should not be copies of foreign experiences. They must be suited to the genius of the people."
He was of the view that what has proved good for the USA or Germany might prove valuable for us too but we should study and analyse it before emulating it in toto.
"I understand that the Japanese have not blindly followed others but developed their own ways and strategies. We should take a lead from them," Tarar added.
The president said if mankind loses its human touch it would find itself in grave perils and Islam as a final message of Allah must guard mankind against this danger. Muslims, as follower of Allah's final message have to play a vanguard role in this behalf, he said.
"I, therefore, urge upon you not to ignore the spiritual element while devising and promulgating strategies for material progress," he added.
Tarar congratulated the new graduates of IBA and wished them success in their future careers.
Sindh Governor Air Marshal Azim Daudpota (Retd) who is also the patron of the IBA, said that this institution did not need to be glorified any more as it had attained heights long ago.
The governor congratulated the graduating students and wished them well in their life and hoped that they would serve the country with the best of their abilities.
The president gave away the medals among position holders.
Governor Sindh presented plaques to the graduating students of the IBA.
IBA Director and Karachi University Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr Zafar H. Zaidi, presented the address of welcome.
He shed light on various aspects of the functioning of the institution and its academic and other achievements.
Federal Minister for Food and Agriculture, Dr Shafqat Ali Shah Jamote, who had also been a graduate of the IBA, was also present.
Justice Hameed Dogar, Chairman of the Board of Governors of the IBA also attended the ceremony. APP
