BD opposition
to announce
anti-govt
programmes
DHAKA: Opposition alliance led by the main opposition party in the Bangladesh, BNP may announce fresh anti-government programmes from a joint rally from Chittagong scheduled to be held on April 4, demanding early resignation of the government.
It is expected that the alliance will set specific dateline for the resignation of the government.
To give a new life to the anti-government movement, BNP and its alliance declared elaborate programmes to hold a grand rally at the Outer Stadium of Chittagong on April 4. The rally will be addressed among others by former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson, Khaleda Zia, former president and Jatiya Party Chief Hossain Mohammad Ershad, Jamat-e-Islami Chief Prof. Golam Azam and chairman of Islami Okkaya Jote Saikhul Hadith Moulana Azizul Haq, etc.
Insiders in the alliance informed tougher programmes will be declared in the rally to compel the government to resign. If the government does not resign within the specific time, it will be removed from power through mass-uprising, insiders of the alliance informed.
They also said that instant programmes will be imposed instantly if the government tries to foil the rally taking any non-democratic means.
It is apprehended that the government with the help of its cadres and police may disrupt the rally. Top opposition leaders and activists of Chittagong may be arrested on fake charges under Public Security Act or Section 144 may be imposed at the port city on the scheduled date of foil the rally.
Alliance sources said, if the government arrests may alliance leaders, or tries to prevent the proposed rally, 72-hour long general strike will be imposed in the greater Chittagong district instantly. Strike will be declared throughout the country if the situation demands so. Everything will depend on the behaviour of the government, the sources added.
Meanwhile, the all-party alliance of Chittagong initiated to make the rally a grand success. They plan to start mass-uprising against the government from the rally.ÑAPP
