LHC issues notices to Mian Sharif, family on NAB petition

LAHORE : The Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday issued notices to Mian Muhammad Sharif and his family members including Nawaz Sharif in a petition filed by Chairman of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) praying the court to shift the references against Sharif family members to an accountability court at Attock Fort.

The Deputy Attorney General, Sher Zaman Khan gave an undertaking to the court that he will provide the correct addresses of the respondents on the next date of hearing.

The petitioner contended in a letter to the Chief Justice, which was treated as a petition, that it has become apparently impossible to conduct trial of the principal accused of the references at Lahore because of the status and influence of the accused.

He said that the other cases against the respondents are filed before a court at Attock Fort. Having regard of facts and circumstances of the case and in the interest of justice and for protection and safety of witnesses, the accused and lawyers of both prosecution and defence, he requested for transfer of the case in question from Lahore to Attock.

The court after hearing the Deputy Attorney General at length issued notice to the respondents i.e members of the Sharif family.

It may be mentioned that members of Sharif family including Mian Sharif and the deposed Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and others had been facing the charge of default of different national financial institutions.
