LAHORE: A meeting of the PPP coordination committees of Islamabad, Lahore and Multan chapter was held here on Sunday.Ifthikar Gilani coordinator of Islamabad committee presided over the meeting.

The meeting while reviewed in detail the prevailing political situation in the country. It also discussed the implications of US President Bill Clinton's visit to the region.

The meeting reiterated party's position that to strengthen the federation restoration of political process was essential.

Reviewing the recent announcement of Chief Executive regarding local bodies, the meeting decided to comment on it after the party's central executive meeting likely to be held at Gari Khuda Baksh on April 3.The meeting, however, was of the view that local bodies elections were not a substitute for general elections.

The meeting also took notice of the illegal termination of various low paid workers in autonomous, semi autonomous bodies and corporations.

The meeting also reviewed the overall organization of the party and paid tribute to the workers for having waged a relentless struggle against the 'un-democratic' government of the former prime minister.

The meeting analysed the visit of American President Bill Clinton to the country and showed its disappointment on the refusal of the US authorities to mediate on the Kashmir issue.

The meting demanded that party leaders Asif Ali Zardari, Faisal Saleh Hayat, Haji Nawaz Khokhar, Navid Qamar, Siraj Durrani who were still under detention, be released immediately.
