PMCH faced
with shortage
of material
NAWABSHAH: The acute shortage of beds in cardiovascular unit of Peoples Medical College Hospital has created great difficulties for the cardiac patients.
According to details the 20 bed cardiovascular department of PMC can accommodate only 20 patients at a time and extra beds are arranged in the corridor and even on the E.C.G. table to accommodate patients arriving in critical condition.
On the other hand male and female patients are admitted in the same ward which creates problems for women observing 'parda' and their attendants.
Inquiries revealed that due to paucity of funds the major expanses of the ward including E.T.T., Echo Test Machine, and ECG machine are met from the fee being recovered from outdoor patients while the indoor patients are provided medical treatment without any fee.
When contacted Senior Registrar Dr. A. D. Memon told that earlier the ward had only sixteen beds and in view of the increasing number of patients the number of beds were increased to 20.
He said that still more beds were required to accommodate increasing number of patients.
He said that Sindh government has provided precious equipment worth Rs. 9.5 million for the Cardio Ward for which more rooms were required.
He told that the installation of these equipment would be started as soon as rooms were provided by the Hospital Authorities.
Dr A. D. Memon said that a latest Colour Doppler Echo Cardiography machine was necessary requirement for the ward as the echo machine has outmoded.
He said that installation of temporary pace maker in the cardio patients can be taken in hand if X-ray machine was lying in X-ray department for repair was repaired and handedover for the purpose. He told that the department was paying Rs 3000 per month towards expenses of Oxygen supply while some other expenses are met from the donations of philanthropists.ÑAPP
