FAO team visits
drought hit
area of Kalat
QUETTA: Commissioner Kalat Division Mohammed Ali Changezi briefed a team of World Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) at Khuzdar on Sunday.
He informed the team that the provincial government has provided Rs two million for providing food to the people of drought hit Aranji. The affected families were provided flour, tea, pulses, dates, glucose and sugar out of this amount.
Besides, the provincial health department provided medicines worth Rs 900,000. Frontier Corps has also provided relief goods worth Rs 1.3 million. The Health department, Frontier Corps and army medical corps also set up medical camps at various places to provide medical cover to the people of the area.
The Livestock department teams have been providing fodder and medicines to the animals and deaths among animals due to starvation have been controlled.
The Commissioner further informed that the Communication and Works department had restored communication with the help of bulldozers and graders and small and big vehicles could enter the affected areas easily.
He said NGOs also helped in relief work in the area and distributed relief goods among the families.
The team during its two-day fact finding visit of the area lauded the efforts of the government organisations and NGOs for their timely assistance to the drought-hit areas. They talked to the affected families and expressed their sympathies with them. The team leader Mohammad Aslam Khan said he would submit a detailed report to his high-ups. The team visited Saman Tusa, Haji Mari, Kanjar, Marhi, Lonido, Arani, Saliwandan, Alfamami, Bhent Khazini, Abu, Lalketar, Bheni Sunaro and Zagarkuwan.ÑAPP
