School councils plan flayed

MULTAN: Punjab Teachers Union (PTU) has rejected the government plan to establish school councils consisting of elite of the area and said that it would badly hit the academic standard and smooth running. PTU Vice-President, Ather Pervaiz Dasti, said that school councils would try to keep the teaching staff under their thumbs and teacher would be forced to eulogise or win over the sympathies of the members of the councils instead of paying proper attention to their professional duties, he feared. He suggested that government should organise a convention of scholars and writers to frame the education policy for rising the academic standard.ÑPPI

Two criminals held

CHICHAWATNI: Police arrested two criminals including a proclaimed offender here on Friday. Reportedly, the Ghaziabad police received a tip-off that proclaimed offender Imran Haider with his accomplice was hiding in a house and planning to commit dacoity. A police party conducted raid and arrested Imran and his accomplice.ÑAPP

ISLAMABAD: The National Training Bureau has organised a week-long Beauty Culture course, commencing from March 27 (Monday). The main objective of holding such courses is to motivate women towards self-employment, sources at Women Training Employment Unit said.
