One killed in

bomb blast, two

cops gunned down

KARACHI: Three people were killed and five others were injured in shooting and bomb blast incidents in the city on Saturday.

Police sources said two policemen riding a motorcycle were chased by gunmen in a car and shot dead on Saturday morning at M A Jinnah Road near Bundu Khan Hotel.

The victims were identified as Sub-inspectors Rehan and Nisar posted at Anti-car Lifting Cell and CIA respectively. Previously, the two SIs were posted at Liaquatabad Police Station and reportedly had taken part in the operation clean-up.

According to eye witnesses, the motorcycle of the two policemen was intercepted by the gunmen who fired a burst of Klashnikove rifle killing them on the spot.

The killers disappeared in the nearby lanes police said.

The dead were taken by a policeman to the Civil Hospital where doctors pronounced them dead.

On person died and five people were injured in a bomb blast incident at Daudpota Road, near Empress Market in the Saddar area. The dead and the injured were shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.

The deadman could not be identified as his body was completely charred.

Out of the five injured, three were discharged after minor medical aid and two, being critically injured were admitted to the hospital, the JPMC sources said.
