Laraki voices
concern over
HR violations
in occupied Kashmir
GENEVA: OIC Secretary General Dr. Azeddine Laraki on Friday expressed concern over the "shameful violations of human rights," in the world including the occupied Kashmir where people are struggling for their right to self-determination.
He was addressing the 56th session of the Commission on Human Rights, being held here on Friday.
Laraki highlighted that the Kashmiri people, who are fighting for their legitimate right to self-determination in compliance with the decision of the United Nations, are undergoing blatant violations of their basic human rights.
He also referred to the killing, destruction and terrorism, which the Muslim of Chechnya are being subjected in broad daylight.
He reiterated the call for an end to Russian aggression and urged the withdrawal of Russian forces, the safe return of all those, who were displaced from their homes.
He called for a peaceful settlement of the Chechen issue based on justice and equity, the rehabilitation and the respected and cultural and social specificity.
Laraki pointed out that Islam was the first to adopt the principles of human rights in the most evident manner and on the largest scale.
"Human rights in Islam emanate from the essence of Islam itself, from the divine revelation. Islam is the only revealed religion which bestows on human teaching so as to ensure mankind a decent, dignified and stable life as well as rights suitable to everyone's needs," he said.
The notion of equality between human beings within the framework of Islamic values, applies to all regardless of their race, colour or social or economic status.ÑAPP
