Heavy traffic on main

roads prohibited

during day

RECORDER REPORT

KARACHI: The Karachi traffic police has decided to prohibit plying of heavy traffic such as containers/trucks, etc., from 7.00 a.m to 7 p.m. on four main city roads namely M. A. Jinnah Road, Shahr-e-Faisal, University Road and from Nazimabad to Business Recorder Road.

The decision has been made in consultation with the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) and trade associations to ensure smooth flow of traffic in commercial and industrial areas of the city.

The Additional IGP (traffic and highways) Sindh, Mohammed Saleh Kadri, met Iqbal Mangrani, the Chairman of the Pakistan Cloth Merchants Association,(PCMA), Sindh-Baluchistan Zone, and informed him about the decision to prohibit heavy traffic on four major roads of the city during the day.

Kadri, who visited the offices of PCMA on the directive of Aftab Nabi, IGP, said that the traffic police supervised traffic arrangements in Bakra Mandi this year which was a great success. He said despite insufficient manpower and the Karachi traffic police was making all possible efforts to reduce traffic jams and facilitating the smooth flow of traffic.

To a query, the traffic police official said that duly attested photocopies from gazetted officers are acceptable in place of original registration books, insurance documents and driving licence. He was also asked whether the Traffic Police would detain car/original driving license at the time of challan till the payment of fine for traffic violation, Kadri promised to provide in writing the legal position on these issues to the PCMA.

Mangrani appreciated the recent improvements in the traffic flow in commercial and industrial areas of the city and expressed the hope that the police would take the business community in confidence while making changes in routes and rules of traffic.
