Karo-Kari claimed
117 lives in
three months
KARACHI: Some 117 persons including 93 women were killed in Sindh in the name of honour (karo-kari) since January, 2000.
According to a survey, some 33 persons, including 24 women, were reportedly injured during the same period, but timely rescue saved their lives.
Every year, in Sindh, karo-kari claims thousands of lives in which a man or a woman is brutally killed by close relatives.
Marriage against the will of family elders was the major cause of these killings. In some cases it is suspected that this custom has been used to settle old rivalries.ÑPPI
