Daudpota assures

more funds for

Thar areas

MITHI, (Tharparkar): Sindh Governor Air Marshal Mohammad Azim Daudpota (Retd), has declared that more money from the poverty alleviation funds would be utilised for Tharparkar to help resolve its problems.

He was addressing a press conference at Mithi on Sunday, after visiting various areas of Thar, Adviser to the Chief Executive on Information and Media Development, Javed Jabbar and Sindh Minister for Health Professor S M Rab were also present.

Replying a question, the Governor said that like the Punjab, Sindh was also facing water shortage.

He said that there were less rains in the Punjab and also less water in Tarbela, Mangla and Warsak dams.

He also pointed out that there was also no rains in Tharparkar and as such the area was facing water problem. He asked the people to pray for the rains so that there could be more water in the dams and availability of water improves.

Replying another question, he said, "we will see that wheat is made available at subsidised prices in Thar areas for the convenience of the people.

Speaking on the occasion, Javed Jabbar said that the reports about deaths of people in Thar because of viral infection were incorrect.

He said that today (Sunday) he himself as well as the Governor and provincial Health Minister visited Islamkot, Mithi and also went to Rural Health Centre and the Hospital in Mithi to look into the reports about the deaths due to viral infection, but nothing of the sort has happened.

Professor Dr S M Rab also denied that any such deaths have occurred. He said that 12 teams of doctors visited the area and examined the people.

Professor Rab said that the problems are due to poverty, shortage of water and unemployment and there are diseases like TB etc, but there were no reports of any viral infeciton or epidemic.

However, he said that when weather changes, there are airborne infections, measles, chickenpox.

Professor Rab said that there no viral infection among the patients that have been examined.ÑAPP
