LHC issues notices to Wapda, Irrigation Department

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court has issued pre-admission notices to Wapda, Irrigation Department and the federal government after hearing a petition filed by a member of the Lahore High Court Bar Association in which he had prayed to the court to direct the government to construct mini-dams in the Punjab.

The petitioner advocate M D Tahir had contended that during the rainy season a huge quantity of water went waste and also caused damage to crops.

He contended that this huge quantity of water could be stored in mini-dams and utilised for irrigating fields.

He said Pakistan would be able to export wheat, rice and other agricultural commodities and earn a lot of foreign exchange if the government constructs mini-dams.

He, therefore, prayed to the court to direct the government to construct min-dams.

The court, after hearing the petitioner at length, issued notices to the respondents.
