HBWF demands

withdrawal of

'pay performance

policy, appraisal form'

RECORDER REPORT

KARACHI: Habib Bank Workers' Front on Wednesday demanded of the bank's management to withdraw the recently introduced "pay performance policy and appraisal form" to regulate pay and increment of the employees.

Habibuddin Junaidi, central president, HBWF, said in a statement that the new policy for the performance appraisal and making decision on the grant of annual increments needed either withdrawal or changes to suit the requirement of the bank and the interest of an employee.

He said rigid application of the two methods for evaluating an employee's worth is likely to hurt thousands of experienced employees interest and working of the bank.

Junaidi said for the last more than 25 years three regular increments and three increments based on performance were being added in the salaries of the employees. The system was in place effectively, he added.

He said the change in the grant of increments and appraisement of performance being introduced in connivance with the "so-called CBA" the management had scrapped the old system.

Junaidi, who was presiding over a meeting of the heads of zonal working committees, said reports were reaching from different places that appraisal forms were being misused and "prejudices of the appraising authorities" are finding place in the preparation of these forms. "Justice and fair-play has no place in these forms," he said.

He suggested that "pay performance" policy be changed by allowing to all the employees, without any exception, 10 percent increment in pay and for grant of further five percent increment the proposed appraisal form can be made applicable after deleting its column D.

He said entries in column D for more than two consecutive years would render an employee surplus "as inefficient" and provide an opportunity to the management to remove him from the job. The column is based on bad intention, he added.

Those who addressed the meeting included HBWF Joint President Shafqat Ghafoor Khan Khalil, Syeda Nadera Parveen, Khalid Shahzad Lashkari, Fazal Karim Orakzai, Khan Mohammed Tanoli and Haji Yakoob.
