CNG use in

vehicles cuts

90 pc emission

of carbonmonoxide

LAHORE: Use of Compressed Natural Gases (CNG) in vehicles reduces 65 to 90 percent emission of carbomonoxide as compared to the use of gasoline.

The use of CNG also completely eliminate emissions of other particulars.

Ozone reactivity from CNG vehicles is better than gasoline emissions up to 80 to 90 percent, said Mohammad Iqbal, Manager, HT&T CNG Engineers and Trade Masters while talking to APP on Thursday.

He said the installation of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) kits in automobiles had experienced a tremendous increase after the recent hike in the petroleum prices and it had almost doubled in recent days.

The CNG kits currently dominating the local market, mainly of Italian origin, are Lavato, Renzo Badeni and Tartrani with the capacity of gas cylinder ranging between 9-kg to 12-kg, said another CNG expert Muhammad Asif of Bilal Auto Workshop.

The prices of a gas kit with cylinder capacity of 9-kg to 10-kg are from Rs 22,000 to 24,500 while those of 11-kg and 12-kg are about 25,500 to 26,500, he added.

He said the quality of gas cylinder mattered much as any low quality container could result in the incidents of burst or explosion.

The public should insist on imported quality cylinder because locally-manufactured cylinders, were of poor quality and their use might be dangerous, the expert said.

In Lahore, there were six gas filling stations including those at Barkat Market, Mansoorah, Model Town, Cathedral Chowk (Cantt) and Mozang Chungi. But these, the expert said, did not cater to the demand of gas users.

Some new gas fillings stations were also being installed at lower, Mall and Saggian bridge.

The manager of gas filling station near Mozang Chungi, Naeemullah Khan said that 350 to 400 vehicles were being filled daily from the station.

He said per kg price of gas is Rs 16 and it was three times cheaper than petrol. Average milage per 1-kg of gas is 16 km, he added.

One Barkat Ali said that he had to face difficulties due to mechanical faults during the installation of gas kit and suggested that people should contact the approved kit installation centres only to avoid problems.

Gas is a cheaper source of energy and also environment-friendly and use of it should be encouraged, they viewed.ÑAPP
