plan to lay off

staff

KARACHI: The Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) has said that it has no intention to retrenchment or lay off its staff after Eid as reported (not Business Recorder) in a section of press.

A spokesman of the PTCL said on Thursday that the reports about retrenchment of the PTCL staff had created unrest amongst the employees. In view of stiff competition the company would rather go for expansion of its programmes and services.

However, the spokesman said that it was agreed that a task force would be constituted which would study and make recommendations for the restructuring of PTCL to meet the competition. The company will face competition after 2002 when its monopoly of basic telephony runs out. All efforts would be made to make the organisation even more efficient by introducing new technologies.

The spokesman further said that the PTCL would soon be starting new centralised city centre, where all complaints of subscribers would be entertained.
