Cuban Chamber convenes forum of businessmen from South

LAHORE: The Chamber of Commerce of Cuba has convened "Forum of Businessmen from South" in Havana from March 21 to 23 for preparation for the first ever summit meeting of government leaders of Group-77 countries, which is scheduled to be held on April 12 and 13.

This was stated by former chairman of G-77 Chamber of Commerce and Industry and chairman Trade Fair Authority of G-77 Chamber Tariq Sayyed in a press release issued here on Wednesday.

He said that the FPCCI president, Fazal-ur-Rehman Dittu, will attend this forum which will focus on challenges for the business sector of the South in the face of the new millennium.

He said the summit is being arranged as a result of the proposal jointly moved by Pakistan and Costa Rica and adopted at G-77 Chamber Conference held in Costa Rica in 1997.

A meeting of the Steering Committee of G-77 Chamber of Commerce and Industry will also be held to formulate recommendations for consideration in the South summit meeting.

He stated that the Steering Committee meeting will also consider Pakistan's proposal for presentation of a G-77 Shield to the President of the USA acknowledging his efforts for peace in Middle East and Europe and calling for similar efforts in South Asia.
