Bachat bazaars to be set up in city

KARACHI: Sub-committee on price fixation of fruits and vegetables has decided to set up special relief bazaars (bachat bazaars), especially, for fruits and vegetables, for the convenience of the general public on Thursday in the city.

The special bazaars will be organised at the following sites:

2-Minute Chowrangi, New Karachi; Anda More, Shadman Town, North Karachi; Opposite Safari Park Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Karachi; Near PCSIR University Road Gulistan-e-Johar, Karachi; Opposite Erum Shopping Centre near Nagan Chowrangi North Karachi; Beside Nadeem Shopping Centre, Disco More North Karachi; opposite Rabia City Gulistan-e-Johar, Karachi; Radio Pakistan Ground Quaidabad, Karachi; PAF Base Masroor Karachi West; Hawks Bay Road Maripur, Karachi; Sherpao Colony Bin Qasim, Karachi and Orangi Town Karachi.

This decision was taken at a meeting held in pursuance of a directive of the Commissioner Karachi with Ms. Shamim Kazmi, Convenor of sub-committee on price fixation of fruits and vegetables in the chair. Representatives of Bureau of Supply and Prices, Wholesalers Association of Fruits & Vegetable Markets, and NGOs consumer protection council and aiwan-e-sarifeen attended the meeting.

Keeping in mind the Eid holidays, it was thought essential that kitchen items must be made available to the people at prescribed rates for Eid. The representatives of fruits and vegetables wholesalers associations agreed to cooperate fully in this effort. These bazaars will be monitored by city administration and representatives of consumer NGOs.

Instructions have been issued to stall holders for proper display of price lists. Consumers are urged to report any overcharging etc., to the complaint centres set up by Bureau of Supply and Prices in these bazaars.ÑAPP
