attend preparatory

meeting for South

KARACHI: A six-member delegation from Pakistan led by FPCCI President Fazal-ur-Rehman Dittu, will attend the preparatory meeting for South Summit being held in Havana, Cuba from March 21 to 23.

The forum of businessmen has been convened by the Chamber of Commerce of Cuba to prepare for the first ever summit meeting of the government leaders of Group-7 countries to be held in Cuba on April 12-13 this year.

Announcing this Tariq Sayeed, former chairman of G-77 Chamber of Commerce and Industry and current Chairman of Trade Fair Authority of G-77 CCI said forum of businessmen would focus attention on challenges for the business sector of the South in the new millennium.

He said the first ever South Summit is being held as a result of joint proposal by Pakistan and Costa Rica and adopted at G-77 CCI conference held in Costa Rica in 1997.

On the occasion of the business forum a meeting of the steering committee of G-77 CCI will also be held to formulate recommendations for consideration of the South summit meeting. He said the steering committee meeting also considered Pakistan's proposal for presentation of a G-77 shield to the President of USA in acknowledgement of his efforts for peace in Middle East and Europe and calling for similar efforts in South Asia.

G-77, Secretary General Anwar-ul-Haque, is also leaving here on March 19, to attend the preparatory meeting.
