Indian CEC asks for seeking aspirations from Sufis
ISLAMABAD: India Chief Election Commissioner Dr Manohar Singh Gill on Tuesday said that the people of India and Pakistan should seek aspirations from the Sufis (saints) like Buleh Shah to have good friendly and brotherly relations.
He said where talking to APP here, during his visit to the office of Election Commission of Pakistan.
Gill said that he has brought with him sentiments of good-will for the people of Pakistan. He said he is highly impressed by the warm reception extended to him, during the visit.
He referred to the lunch given to him here on Monday by the Chief Election Commissioner Justice Abdul Qadeer Khan (Retd), which was attended, among others, by Chief Justice of Pakistan and other judges of the superior courts, besides high officials.
This, he said, was the reflection of warm welcome, extended not only to him, but also to the Election Commission of India. "This is a great honour for us," he added. He said he was enjoying every minute of his stay in Pakistan.
He expressed his deep attachment with saints in sub-continent, like Buleh Shah, Waris Khan and Hazrat Mian Mir. They, he added, are the source of strength of the development of social and human values.
Dr Gill also expressed his sense of shock and grief over the sad demise of classical folk singer Ustad Fateh Ali Khan. Conveying sympathy to the bereaved family, he said he had been his great admirer.
The Indian Chief Election Commissoner who had also distinction of working for the agriculture development in India, said that Pakistan has rich potential for hte agriculture growth.
He was of the view that proper marketing of agriculture products is imperative to achieve desired results.
Earlier, Dr Gill had a meeting with Chief Election Commissioner of Pakistan Justice Qadeer Khan (Retd). He discussed matters of bilateral interests with him.
Later, he visited the Supreme Court of Pakistan and met the Chief Justice of Pakistan Mr Justice Irshad Hassan Khan and other judges of the Supreme Court. APP
