Caste clashes claim eight more lives in India
NEW DELHI: At least eight people were killed, seven of them burnt alive, in caste clashes in India's southern Karnataka state, the Press Trust of India (PTI) said on Sunday.
Trouble started after a youth was fatally stabbed by a rival group late on Saturday in Kambalapally village in Kolar district, 70 km (43.75 miles) from the state capital Bangalore, PTI said quoting police officials.
"Enraged at the killing, members of the other group set afire two huts, where the suspected killers of the youth had taken shelter, burning alive seven people," PTI said.
The news agency said senior police and district officials had rushed to the village following the clashes, believed to be between upper and lower caste Hindus, but did not give any other details.-Reuters
