KARACHI: Tajir Action Committee (TAC) , has asked the Chief Executive, General Pervez Musharraf to meet representatives of small traders and retailers in order to settle the issue of documentation of the economy and imposition of general sales tax.

Imran Saeed Baghpatee, Convenor of TAC, in a statement said that the representatives of business community, who were holding meetings with the chief executive belonged to the sector which was already documented. He said retailers were facing problems in documentation and they wanted to discuss the GST issue in order to get it settled once and for all.

He said the sales tax authorities had started sending notices along with warnings of imposition of penalties and arrest to small traders. The issue of sales tax registration had not been resolved properly and there was still some ambiguity which should be cleared before taking final step in this regard, he said.

He suggested that the government should make some policy statement in this respect so that traders could take up the issue with quarters concerned.

He said bureaucracy was trying to impose a system of their own choice instead of watching the interest of business community as well as the national economy.
