Display of CNG-converted rickshaw on 11th
LAHORE: Environment Protection Department (EPD) Punjab have converted a rickshaw on CNG (compressed natural gas) on experimental basis, and will demonstrate it at a local hotel on Saturday.
Punjab Minister for Environment, Shafqat Mahmood and Secretary Environment, Safdar Javaid Syed will give briefing about the usefulness of CNG in rickshaws on the occasion.
The use of CNG in rickshaws is not only economical, it is also environment friendly, said Nasim-ur-Rehman incharge EPD's campaign against polluting vehicles, while talking to newsmen on Thursday.
Tests of CNG converted rickshaw to check pollution have given amazing results, as compared to petrol consuming vehicles, it emits many times less anti-environment gases, he said.
In the CNG rickshaw, emission of COs (carbon mono oxide) was recorded as 0.1 to 0.75 percent he said, adding that 4.50 to 6.00 percent such emission is allowed.
He said that the CNG converted rickshaw is a 1982 model, and the purpose to convert this 18 year old model was just to show rickshaw owners the usefulness of CNG in both old and new three wheelers.
Technical assistance was provided by two firms Messrs HT&T CNG Engineers & Consultants and Trade Masters Lahore, he added.
EPD is also working to control fuel adulteration by petrol pump owners besides advising them to display banners with information regarding environment concerns, he added. APP
