Welcomming the millennium

LAHORE: 'Welcoming the Millennium', an exhibition of paintings by outstanding graduates of the National College of Arts will be held at the College gallery on January 13. Punjab Governor Lt. General Muhammad Safdar (R) will inaugurate the exhibition which has been jointly arranged by district administration and the NCA. The display will continue till January 29th from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.ÑAPP

Namaz-e-Istasqa offered

BAHAWALPUR: Namaz-e-Istasqa was offered at Chanan Peer in Cholistan, 60 kilometres off here. Commissioner of Bahawalpur Syed Masood Ahmad Shah, DIG Police Rana Abid Saeed, Deputy Commissioner Javaid Akhtar and a large number of Cholistani people prayed for rain. Cholistan is in the grip of severe drought as there has been no rain in the area during this season.ÑAPP

70 prisoners released

SAHIWAL: As many as 70 prisoners involved in minor crimes were released from Central Jail, Sahiwal, on the orders of Punjab Governor Lt. Gen Muhammad Safdar (Retd). According to jail sources 2,088 under-trial prisoners on have been released since November last. They also include 11 women.ÑAPP

Security beefed up

BAHAWALPUR: Security has been beefed up in Bahawalpur division to ensure peace during Eid. According to DIG Police, Bahawalpur, Rana Abid Saeed armed policemen and commandos have been deployed at the markets, shopping centres and other public places. He said that police patrolling has been enhanced. The police of Bahawalpur division is at high alert and all measures have been evolved to maintain law and order.ÑAPP
