Eid celebrated in parts of Frontier province

PESHAWAR: Eidul Fitr was celebrated in parts of Mardan, Swabi, Charsadda districts, Mohmand Agency and Afghan refugees camps in Peshawar, and Jalozai on Friday.

Eid was celebrated despite the announcement made by the unofficial moon sighting committee comprising local ulema that the Shawal moon had not been sighted in any part of the province.

The eight member unofficial moon sighting committee observed that as 30 days of fasting would complete on January 7 (Friday), therefore, Eidul Fitr would be celebrated on Saturday.

However, reports pouring in from Mardan, Swabi and Charsadda districts claimed that a number of witnesses had appeared before the local Ulema claiming that they had sighted the moon on Thursday.

The Peshawar rites did not celebrate Eidul-Fitr with Charsadda, Mardan and Swabi districts after almost a decade and complete fasting was observed on Friday. APP
