Drought likely to persist for next three months

ISLAMABAD: Drought is likely to persist in the country as less than usual rain is expected in the coming three months due to the effects of present La Nina phenomenon which would linger on, experts say.

Pakistan is in a grip of drought due to transformation in the world weather patterns and is going through a spell of dryness for the last two months.

In different areas of the country severe and dry cold is persisting and pollution is increasing in the atmosphere.

In the months of December and January usually 93 mm rain fall in Islamabad, 37 in Lahore, 10 in Karachi, 49 in Peshawar and 88 mm in Quetta, but no rain has fallen this year.

According to experts, La Nina is the cause of changes in the recent weather conditions which occur after a period of three to five years and becomes the cause for extra-ordinary changes in weathers.

Due to absence of rain for the last 15 months in the country present drought condition has developed.

At present a weak weather system is passing through the country which will mainly keep the weather cloudy but light rain could fall in western parts of the country. APP
