GST issue needs to be reviewed, says RCCI chief

RAWALPINDI: Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI), President S. M. Naseem has said the General Sales Tax issue needs careful consideration of the government in order to make it persuasive for the taxpayer and we should be tailored to our own system according to our own requirements.

He made these remarks in his statement issued here on Thursday.

he said long-term and consistent economic policies are need of the hour and the government should ensue the implementation of the economic policies.

"Fiscal deficit and balance of payment has become a most challenging problems for our economic managers, building of confidence is of paramount importance for the investor.

We also need to coentrate on the export of value-added goods rather than raw material or semi-finished goods," he added.

S. M. Naseem said we believe that any further upward revision in POL prices would adversely effect the growth of economy.

He appreciated the discussion programme, introduced by the government for policy-making and said a CBR official, who is specially deputed to visit chamber and trade bodies, should be given more mandate to discuss and take necessary decision accordingly.

Naseem said the business community assures its full co-operation to the government in its economic revival plan. He demanded that chambers be involved in policy-making and their due representation be given in all important policy-making bodies. APP
