Exports surge by 8.1 pc in December

ISLAMABAD: Country's exports recorded surge by 8.1 percent while imports descended by 2.3 percent during December '99 showing an improvement in balance of trade, official sources said here on Thursday.

Exports have reflected an increase from $714 million in November '99 to $772 million in December 1999, official sources said.

Imports registered a decline from $847 million in November '99 to $828 million in December '99 reflecting minus 2.2 percent decrease, sources stated.

The balance of trade during November was to the tune of $133 million which was trimmed to $56 million during last month, the sources added.

Total exports during first six months of 1998-99 were to the tune of $3,819 million which went up to $4,103 million during first six months of 1999-2000 reflecting improvement by 7.4 percent, sources added.

While imports recorded on increase from $4,383 million in the first six months of 1998-99 to $4886 million in the first six months of 1999-2000, the sources maintained. APP
