The dollar surged by 15 paisa against the rupee in the open currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi on Thursday.
The markets started the day with a stronger greenback at Rs 53.90 as compared to previous value of Rs 53.75. The rupee remained glued to its morning levels and dollar was sold at Rs 54 as compared to Wednesday's rate of Rs 53.70.
Dealers said the market resumed trading on a healthy note following participation of buyers and sellers in the first session. The market remained in plus territory throughout the day and finally closed with positive sentiment.
Following change in the international market, pound sterling soared by 55 paisa against the rupee as it opened at Rs 88.25 as compared to overnight value of Rs 87.70. The British currency moved within the range of Rs 88.25 and Rs 88.30 and was sold at Rs 88.50.
The demand of UAE dirham remained higher in the kerb as it opened at Rs 14.64 and sellers were offering at Rs 14.70. The Saudi currency was bought and sold at Rs 14.31 and Rs 14.35 respectively.
German mark continued its upward journey against the rupee as it opened at Rs 28.30 as compared to last rate of Rs 28.20. German currency remained active throughout the day and was sold at Rs 28.50.
Japanese currency maintained its overnight levels as it opened at Re 0.516 and was sold at Re 0.518.
The sentiment of the Rawalpindi currency exchange establishments remained positive throughout the day with participation of margin hunters and genuine buyers. Traders remained busy in buying and selling of hot favourite currencies like ever-favourite greenback, pound and UAE dirham during the day.
Dollar and pound were bought and sold at the same rate of Islamabad.
