Adamjee Engg plea for removal of tariff anomaly

ISLAMABAD: Adamjee Engineering has approached National Tariff Commission for removal of tariff anomaly in duty structure pertaining to the industry manufacturing concrete nails and has also requested for tariff protection for local manufacturing of blind rivets.

The applicant has requested that in order to make indigenous industry viable and competitive, the raw materials may be allowed to be imported at 10 percent concessionary duty instead of 35 percent & 25 percent, particularly because both categories of inputs are not being locally manufactured.

The raw material, high carbon steel grooved wire is importable at 35 percent CD for the nails and aluminium alloy wire is importable at 25 percent CD for the rivets.

The Commission invites views, suggestions and proposals from all parties having interest in the business relating to or associated with this product or with this industry. The views may be sent within 10 days to the Secretary, National Tariff Commission, 4th Floor, State Life Building # 5, Blue Area, Islamabad.

In this regard, a public hearing is scheduled to be held on January 19 at 11:00 a.m. in the Conference Room of National Tariff Commission, Islamabad.
