Desilting drive in Kohat launched

PESHAWAR: Like other parts of the province, the desilting campaign started in Kohat on Monday which was inaugurated by General Officer Commanding Maj Gen Tariq Bashir.

The campaign was inaugurated at a canal near Kohat city wherein a large number of local people and Army Jawans participated.

Addressing the gathering, Maj Gen Tariq Bashir told the gathering that the de-silting campaign has been started with a view to taking solid steps with full determination to achieve autarky in food by the Pak Army and the general public.

He said the de-silting of canals would not only plug wastage of irrigation water but would also enhance agriculture produce which would cast positive impact on the national exchequer.

He said the campaign would save Rs 50 million of the NWFP.

Gen Tariq said that 430 miles long canals throughout the circle that included seven districts of Kohat, Bannu and DI Khan divisions, would be de-silted as a result of which the farmers at the tail-end would be able to receive full share of water.

He said about 2,000 army Jawans would participate in the campaign along with their farmers brothers and men from irrigation, C&W, Forest and Agriculture Departments.

He made an appeal to the farmers to come forward in a big way and join hands with their brothers to accomplish this monumental nation building task. APP
