KARACHI: Finance Minister Shaukat Aziz will meet managing committee and life members of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry in Islamabad on Tuesday at 11 a.m. to find out their problems and what, in their view should be done to put the economy, which is in "deep trouble," back on track.

Since Fazal ur Rehman Dittu, President, FPCCI, is on a private visit abroad, the 15/20-member FPCCI delegation will be led by acting President Mehmood Ahmed. Prior to meeting the finance minister, the FPCCI delegation will have a brief chat with Commerce Minister Abdul Razak Dawood in the Commerce Ministry for a feed-back on the situation existing in this area.

No new memorandum has been drawn up by the FPCCI, highlighting problem areas and suggesting measures for improvement, and it will rely on the same memorandum which was presented to the Finance Minister during his visit to the Federation House here in November. Since it was a comprehensive document covering all the areas, it was not considered necessary to draw up fresh proposals for discussions.

The delegation members, it was indicated here, would emphasize that the FPCCI should be actively involved and closely associated in the formulation of policies for the revival of economy. True to the saying that "the wearer knows where the shoes pinches," only the businessmen can advice whether a policy will achieve the purpose intended, they say.
