Post offices to collect KESC bills from tomorrow
KARACHI: Director Managing KESC Brig Syed Shahid Mukhtar Shah has announced that post offices in addition to the banks have been authorised to collect KESC bills from February 1, 2000.
The Wapda Chairman Lt-Gen Zulfiqar Ali Khan had desired that post offices should collect the Wapda and KESC bills to facilitate the consumers, a spokesman said on Sunday.
The decision was made after the successful operation of a pilot project in Punjab, launched in 1999 for the same.
After final decision by the committee constituted by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) and approval of Wapda Pakistan, post offices started collecting Wapda bills throughout the country from October 1999 except areas of Karachi Metropolitan and some portions of Balochistan and Sindh served by KESC which has now been included in the programme.
To begin with 151 post offices have been selected from the five districts of the city of collection of bills, some of these are operating day and night.
Todate the commercial banks had been collecting the bills. Due to their limited time for this purpose and that of specified number of the branches providing the service the people were faced with problem regarding timely clearance of their power bills.
The number of KESC consumers is around 1.5 million and is on increase each day.
The KESC will pay Rs two per bill at its service charges to the post office, the spokesman said. APP
