Army help sought against corruption in engg dept

MULTAN: The Multan Army Monitoring Cell has been requested to appoint an army official to investigate the alleged corruption of engineers of Agriculture Engineering Department, Multan region.
The corrupt bureaucracy was being protected by politicians in the previous regime, said in an application lodged with the Multan Army Monitoring Cell by the Punjab Labour Alliance (PLA).
It has been stated in the application that Multan agriculture engineer Mohammad Asghar was appointed at Multan in 1991 who had allegedly earned heavy commission from the purchase of spare parts, of buldozers and supplied expired spare-parts which damaged the whole machinery.
The so-called purchase was also done in Khanewal, Sahiwal, Lodhran and Vehari. But the enquiries were shelved by the bureaucracy.
The agriculture engineer used an official vehicle No. MNH-5853 illegally and killed Malik Asghar Ali Ahmed, supervisor in a road accident. A Assistant Agriculture Engineer Abdul Malik got injured in the accident while the jeep was also damaged.
The accident took place in 1995 but no legal action was carried out. Over 27,000 litre diesel and GP Fund amounting Rs. 3.2 million were stolen during the posting of the agriculture engineer at Multan.
The Army Monitoring Cell has accepted the application No. 786-448/2000 and forwarded it for further processing official source said that a thorough enquiry would be initiated into the purchase from 1991 to 1995.
