Govt urged to consult chambers for industrial policy

ISLAMABAD: Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) President S.M. Naseem has asked the government to consult with Chambers before devising an Industrial Policy, making it easier to achieve the target in this regard.

Welcoming the commerce minister's statement on proposed industrial policy, the RCCI president said, "The long-term and export-led Industrial Policy has become a need of the time, and instead of exporting raw material and semi-furnished goods we should move towards value-added exports."

S.M. Naseem also said that in 1995-96 our total exports were to the tune of $ 8,707 million, which now in 1998-99 have decreased up to $ 5,690 million. "It shows a worst decline in exports."

He urged the government to take necessary steps for enhancing exports.
