PHMA wants say
in textile
policy-making
process
RECORDER REPORT
KARACHI: The Pakistan Hosiery Manufacturers Association (PHMA) on Saturday said that the PHMA was ignored by the federal ministries of commerce and industries and was not invited to participate in any of the meetings held to discuss 'strategies to develop the new textile policy'.
The association in a press release appealed to the Chief Executive to 'direct the people concerned to give the PHMA an opportunity to be represented in policy making process'.
PHMA said Federal Industries Minister, Razak Dawood invited a number of industrialists to discuss the strategies to develop the new textile policy but the PHMA, despite being the largest foreign exchange earners of value-added goods, was not even invited to these meetings.
The press release said, "It is important to note that most people who invited were the same who had been participating in such policy formulations under the previous governments and such directly or indirectly responsible for the downfall of our strong textile base, since their priorities were the furtherance of personal aims and objectives."
