Many areas still dry
KWSB plan to boost
water supply by 100 mgd

KARACHI: The Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) has drawn up a scheme to increase water supply in the city by 100 million gallon per day (MGD) (K-3) New Managing Director (MD) of the KWSB informed the Sindh Chief Secretary Mohammed Zubair Kidwai on Saturday.
The KWSB MD in his report on the 100 mgd water scheme has said that the federal government has cleared the concept paper.
He briefed Kidwai on the 'Hub Contingency Plan' and said that to overcome the shortage of water in affected areas i.e., Orangi, Baldia, Surjani Town, SITE, the water supply from the Indus source was diverted to Hub linked areas through construction of pumping station at Khawaja Ajmer Nagri (40 mgd) and Board Office, Nazimabad (10 mgd).
The KWSB has already launched a phased programme to repair water leakage to control water losses.
While the KWSB is making plans for bringing 100 mgd and controlling water losses, which have been cleared by the federal government to be undertaken, Nazimabad, Gulberg, Rizvia Society, Mujahid Colony, Dastigir Colony, Federal B Area, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Baldia, Shershah, Lyari, Khadda, Dhobi Ghat, and part of district Malir continue to suffer from acute water shortage.
