Digital exchange starts operations

DERA GHAZI KHAN: Extension of 300 lines telephone exchange in Shadan Loond, 500 lines in Naukat Mahmeed, and 600 lines in Paigah had been completed, and new digital telephone exchange and started working at Jhok Uttra. This was disclosed by the Divisional Engineer Telephones DG Khan, Shabbir Shad. He said illegal PCOs at Nautak Mahmeed, Kot Chutta, Sakhi Sarwar, Paigah, Shadan Loond, Choti Zerin and Choti Bala had been closed.ÑAPP

Road link with Motorway demanded

LAHORE: Area Development Council (ADC) has demanded the construction of a new road from Chauburji to Sherakot interchange to ensure the smooth flow of vehicular traffic to and from Lahore-Islamabad Motorway. "The available roads linking the western parts of the city with Motorway i.e. Multan road and Bund road are not enough to accommodate the huge traffic load," observed Karamat Ali Qadri, Chairman ADC in a statement here on Thursday. He said that the road could be constructed on the land to be retrieved through covering a two-kilometres long drain presently flowing from Chauburji to Sherakot.ÑAPP

PAF recruitment

ISLAMABAD: The recruitment of Fighter pilots and Aeronautical Engineers in Pakistan Air Force (PAF) has started. According to a press release of the Directorate of PAF Public Relations, candidates who have obtained minimum 50 percent marks in F.Sc. are eligible to apply. Rapists' arrest ordered

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Thursday directed police to arrest and registre Hadood case against two aged rapists and also sought a report from police within 30 days in this regard. The petition filed by Khalida of Jalalpur through her counsel MD Tahir submitted that in 1998 her father handed over her to maternal grand-father and went to Karachi in connection with the job. In the absence of her father her grand-father, Sardar Mohammad raped her many times. later grand father handed her over to his 60-year old friend Nawaz and received Rs. 14,000 in this regard. When her father came to know about the crime he approached Jalalpur police which is reluctant to take action against the culprits. She prayed the court to direct police to register Hadood case against the accused.ÑAPP

AIOU merit list

ISLAMABAD: Allama Iqbal Open University has announced merit list for admission in M.Sc. (Physics). According to the announcement, the admission in M.Sc (Physics) for the semester spring, 2000 has been granted to 460 students on merit. The admission information letter to all the selected candidates have been despatched in which they have advised to deposit their addmision fees. The admission of such students, who fail to deposit the fee by February 15, will be cancelled and the admission will be granted to the next candidate as per merit list.ÑAPP
