Cleanliness campaign reviewed

KARACHI: Provincial Minister for Law, Social Welfare and Women Development, Barrister Shahida Jamil, on Thursday visited various parts of District West to review on-going cleanliness campaign launched by DMC and district administration in cooperation with NGOs.

During the visit administrator DMC west briefed the minister about campaign's salient features and said some 1,490 strong sanitary staff with 70 vehicles are associated with the drive.

She was informed that during the campaign which will conclude on January 29, an additional 5,000 tonnes of garbage will be removed.

The minister advised the district and municipal administration to involve the community in the campaign so as to achieve tangible results.

She also spoke to the people on the occasion and urged them to extend their cooperation to authorities and help in bringing improvement in the environmental conditions as well as beautification of the district.

The law minister also inspected Manghopir Road and DMC West office where Pakistan's first library has been estabished for poor and destitute kids.

She appreciated the steps being taken by district and municipal authorities for the welfare of common people.
