50,000 Wapda workers may face retrenchment
RECORDER REPORT
MULTAN: The Wapda Chairman has hinted that about 50,000 surplus workers might be retrenched for the survival of the organisation otherwise it will collapse.
Addressing an open kutchery at Muzaffargarh on Wednesday, the Wapda chairman said that about 3,000 officials have so far been dismissed in a year on charges of corruption, irregularities, extorting bribe and embezzlement.
He said that Wapda was being purged of corrupt and dishonest elements who had added to the miseries of common consumers.
When some workers protested against the removal of 50 workers from the thermal power station, Muzaffargarh, he said there was no other option to remove them.
He refused outright to accept the demand of Muzaffargarh retrenched workers and said that they should be absorbed in upcoming projects of Ghazi Brotha and Chashma Hydal Power projects.
He took a serious notice of line losses in Muzaffargarh and Vehari districts describing it unjust.
When some consumers lodged complaints of wrong and inflated billing, the Wapda chairman said that we would sent back officials/meter readers who would submit correct bills. When a woman drew his attention towards disconnection of power supply because she could not pay an inflated bill of Rs. 3,500 upon this the Wapda chairman asked how much she can pay, she replied that she can pay only Rs. 500, he ordered to restore her power connection after payment of Rs. 500.
On a complaint that thermal power stations were polluting the atmosphere in the area, the chairman said that some necessary measures are being taken to keep the atmosphere neat and cold.
