11 PHC judges take fresh oath

PESHAWAR: Eleven Judges of the Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Wednesday took fresh oath of their office under the Provisional Constitution Order (PCO) following the government's late Tuesday night notification.

However, two Judges - Justice Javed Nawaz Chandapur and Mohammad Nawaz Khan - were dropped as they were not administered oath and their services, as an official of the NWFP government said, "stand terminated".

NWFP Governor Mohammad Shafiq first administered the oath to Chief Justice Mian Mohammad Ajmal in the morning. Thereafter, at 1:00 pm, the PHC Chief Justice helped other eight Judges to take the fresh oath.

However, at 6:00 pm, two more Judges - Malik Hamid Saeed and Shah Jehan Khan Yousafzai - were invited to take fresh oath. They were present at the 1:00 pm, ceremony that took place at the PHC building.

The following Judges,beside the Chief Justices, took the oath: Justice Sardar Mohammad Raza, Justice Mian Shakirullah Jan, Justice Khalida Rashid, Justice Nasrul Mulk, Justice Tariq Pervez, Justice Abdur Rauf Laghmani, Justice Shahzad Akbar Khan, Justice Tallat Qayyum Qureishi, Justice Malik Hamid Saeed and Justice Shah Jehan Khan Yousafzai.

The oath-taking ceremony at the Governor House was attended, among others, by Corps Commander Peshawar Lt. Gen Saeed-uz-Zafar, provincial ministers, IG Frontier Corps Maj Gen Sultan Habib, IG Frontier Constabulary Syed Kamal Shah, IG Police Mohammad Saeed Khan, Chief Secretary Abdullah and Additional Chief Secretary Ijaz Qureshi.
