CE to be briefed about 'post-Chaghi project' on Feb 2

ISLAMABAD: The Government of Pakistan plans to bring under cultivation an area of one million acres in Chaghi where Pakistan conducted its nuclear tests in May 1998.

A detailed proposal for bringing one million acres of land in Chaghi under cultivation to meet food shortage in the country will be presented to Pakistan Chief Executive General Pervez Musharraf on February 2, sources in the ministry of agriculture told Fortuna on Tuesday.

These sources said that an official summary of the proposed project had already been finalised by the ministry for food and agriculture.

Sources said the ministry had named the proposed project as 'Post Chaghi Project' and said that implementation of the project involved minimal capital investment in the form of installation of tubewells and water pumps besides supply of seeds to the farmers in the area.

Ministry sources said they were optimistic that their proposal will be approved by the chief executive as he had shown special interest in promoting agriculture in Pakistan.ÑFortuna
