CE briefed on desilting campaign

MULTAN: Chief Executive General Pervez Musharraf said here on Tuesday that the desilting work this year was being efficiently done, and added that army will carry out desilting work next year as well.

He said this during a briefing given by Brig. Mohammad Asghar near Shanaal distributary in Mauza Rukanpur, district Lodhran.

Earlier on arrival, he was received by provincial Law Minister Dr Khalid Ranjha, Punjab IG Rafique Haider and General Officer Commanding Multan Maj. Gen. Farooq Ahmed.

General Musharraf took a keen interest in minute details of the inhand desilting work during the briefing and put questions on the pace and expenditure of the desilting work.

He was informed that quantum of work done this year was more than the last year and that too at much less cost.

Brig Asghar said that Rs 30 million was the total cost on desiltation in this area as compared to Rs 61.7 million expenditure last year funded by the

World Bank.

Brig. Asghar told him that 85 percent of the work has been completed in Multan Zone and due to enthusiastic cooperation of the farmers community they were able to enhance their targets. APP
