CDWP to OK seven projects worth Rs 5 bn on Saturday

ISLAMABAD: Central Development Working Party (CDWP) on Saturday will approve as many as seven new development projects worth Rs 5 billion (including the share of donor agencies) of different nature.

These projects have been prepared and submitted to the CDWP by the federal ministries and divisions.

The Secretary Planning Division will chair the meeting of CDWP which is taking place for the first time after the present government took charge. All the federal secretaries and officials concerned will also participate in the meeting to get their projects approved.

The projects to be considered for approval at the coming meeting include upgradation of Radlorelay Equipment PL-70 in the transport and communication sector.

In the water resource sector, the ministry of water and power has submitted a project named establishment of provincial coordination and management for Chashma Right Bank irrigation stage-III. The cost of the project is Rs 35.4 million.

In the energy sector, a project with an estimated cost of Rs 4121.94 million has also been submitted for consideration and subsequent approval of the CDWP. The name of the project is Neelum Valley Hydro Electric Project (AJK) and has been submitted by Kashmir Affairs, Northern Affairs Division.

The Ministry of Education has also submitted a project named Development of University of Balochistan including computer sceince department phase-I (1999-2001). The cost of the project is Rs 89.17 million.

Similarly, in the manpower sector, the Economic Affairs Division has submitted a project named gender programme support project with an estimated cost of Rs 99 milllion.

The Ministry of Agriculture has sought CDWP's approval for two projects. One of the proposed projects aims at increased cotton production by introgressions of desirable genes through biotechnology. The cost of the project is Rs 86.7 million for which Rs 36.7 million will be provided by the donor agencies. Fortuna
