Judgement reserved in college admission test plea

LAHORE: A three-member full bench of the Lahore High Court headed by Mr. Justice Mian Allah Nawaz on Monday reserved judgement of a petition challenging the "admission criteria" set by Board of Governors of Aitchison College.

Punjab Advocate General Maqbool Illahi Malik appearing before the court completed his arguments on Monday.

The counsel for the Aitchison College Ijaz Batalvi had earlier completed his arguments informing the court that the college is an autonomous body and has its own budget, policy to run the affairs.

The petition was filed by candidate Zubair Akram of the admission test through his counsel A. K. Dogar submitted that entry test for the addmission in the collee was unfair, unjustified and discriminator.

He submitted that he had participate in the entry test for the admission to class eight on July 7, 1998 and obtained 70 percent marks, but was later deprived of the admission.

He submitted that another candidate Hassan Akhtar, son of suspended MPA Akhtar Rasool who secured lower percentage than the petitioner got admission in the college.

He alleged in the petition that the Board Governors is running the affairs of the college and is indulged in favouritism, indiscrimination and unfairness in the admission of the students.

He had prayed to the court to pass order for abolishment of the Board of Governors and hand over the affairs of the college to the independent soicety for the smooth running of affairs. APP
