Indian bombardment on Pakistani posts continues

CHAMB SECTOR, (LoC): Heavy fire and mortar bombardment that started Saturday morning by the Indian army on Pakistani posts, continued till Sunday evening.

This was stated by the Commander of Chamb Sector, Brig Zahid while briefing the journalists of international and national media who visited the Pakistani posts along the Line of Control on Sunday.

Indian attack has been repulsed and appropriate measures have already been taken in this regard, he said.

He said a company of Indian army attacked a small post inside Pakistan territory at 3-30 hours on January 22 after crossing River Tavi.

Preceded by mortars and other automatic weapon fires, the enemy attacked thrice from different directions, he said.

The assault from the South Easterly dimension was successfully repulsed while in a second attempt from the easterly direction, a few of the enemy soldiers were able to close in on the post and managed to enter the post area.

These soldiers fired rockets and grenades into the bunkers and at the same time another attack came from the North West direction, he said.

"Hand to hand fight ensued in the post area that continued till 04.15 hours", he said.

The Pakistani troops fought valiantly inflicting heavy casualties on the enemy.

During hand to hand fight, an Indian officer supposedly a captain was also killed whose body was taken away by the Indian soldiers after wrapping up it in a sheet.

One of the Pakistani soldiers was also hurt.

While retreating, the enemy managed to take the bodies of their dead soldiers, he said.

He said the enemy attack was successfully repulsed and in the process, two of Pakistani soldiers embraced "Shahadat" while five other were missing.

He said it was an act of blatant aggression on the part of Indian.

It is a recurring pattern to change the status of Line of Control (LoC), he said, adding, Indians' indiscriminate firing is a continuous feature and often resulted in killing the innocent civilians.

"We have always exercised restraint and we will continue to do so but we reserve the right to take measures in our self-defence", he categorically said. APP
